Rennie Ellis published three books on Graffiti: Australian Graffiti (1975) Australian Graffiti Revisited (1979) and The All New Australian Graffiti (1985). Ellis wrote, "It occurred to me one day that, like the common cold, graffiti was hard to avoid...it struck me as worth recording, if for no other reason than to document a minor, but nevertheless significant, insight into what a legion of Australians thought about themselves and their society"
